NETSPACE FACILITIES

Physical Security

  • No windows or external walls
  • A single entry route
  • Controlled 'layered' access
  • Walls that go from concrete base to concrete ceiling
  • Located off the ground floor
  • Motion sensitive surveillance cameras
  • Controlled temperature and humidity
  • 24/7 monitored power, moisture, temperature, and smoke

Controlled Access

Access to our site and to the demarcation and server rooms within our site is controlled 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Only authorised personnel or visitors accompanied by authorised personnel are on site at any time. Access is controlled at various 'layers' to allow only very limited access to the server room itself.

Fire Rated Walls and Doors

The server room has been constructed to have a two-hour fire rating, using GIB FyrelineTM throughout on steel framing, a certified fire door and frame from Pacific Door Systems, fire rated boxes in all power and data points, and FirePro sealant on all cables. GIB FyrelineTM is a high performance fire resistant board.

GIB FyrelineTM systems provide from 1/2 hour to 3 hours' fire protection on standard 600mm timber or steel frames. Pacific Door systems are a New Zealand owned company, specialising in high-quality, unique door solutions for a wide range of end users including Hospitals, Secure facilities, Detention facilities and the like. Pacific Door Systems manufacture tested and approved products, and are a recognised leader in this field.

Cooling Systems

Because electronic system availability is required 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, the environmental control system must meet the same demands. Our Liebert Atlas 128 RA-100 Process Coolers were designed with the highest quality components selected for their proven reliability. Microprocessor technology adds automatic sequencing of components to even wear and extend service life. An alarm system and self-diagnostics provide rapid troubleshooting and can prevent a problem before it affects the electronic equipment room environment.

UPS Power

Netspace provides clean filtered power to all electrical equipment in our server room using Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) from Liebert. As a true double conversion UPS, the 60kVA Liebert 7200 is better able to protect critical systems before, during and after extended outages than line interactive systems. The UPS unit also has additional batteries to provide up to 90 minutes of battery capacity at full load to bridge the gap in the event of a complete power failure. For protection against longer power outages we have full generator power backup.

More information on Liebert UPS systems can be found at http://www.liebert.com/

Generator Backup

Netspace has a 250kVA F G Wilson diesel generator to provide emergency backup power to all equipment within our datacentre. The generator provides cover in the event of any power event that cuts power to our site.

Internet Firewall

Firewalling is provided to all servers within our server room. Servers are allocated private IP addresses within small subnets, and ports from the public IP address used for the services provided are forwarded by the firewall using iptables.

Fibre Connectivity

Netspace has multiple dedicated fibre connections to CityLink, a fibre mesh around CDB Wellington, and dedicated fibre to TelstraClear. We are using ICONZ, iHug and TelstraClear for international traffic and some national (see "WIX peering" below). Because CityLink utilises a mesh architecture there is no over-reliance on one central communications point - it effectively provides redundant fibre links between our data centre and the world, as a single point of failure would not stop data going another way across the mesh to get to its destination.

More information on CityLink can be found at http://www.citylink.co.nz/

WIX Peering

The main Netspace Internet router is peering on WIX using BGP4, which allows data packets from our router to go directly to the routers of other peers without having to go through our ISP. This means that we aren't relying on our ISPs systems and network functioning in order to supply services to users coming from other ISPs - traffic from other ISPs who peer with us will come directly to our router. There are over 120 routers currently peering on WIX. Most ISPs in New Zealand peer on WIX, including ICONZ, Vodafone (iHug), Orcon and dozens more.

NETSPACE OPTIONAL FACILITIES

Server Redundancy

We can configure our networks and servers to deliver hot-hot and hot-cold service redundancy for peace of mind and for business continuity.
